My count was 26 Cranes at the MNWR visitors’ center yesterday about 3:00 PM.
Mostly standing around, or strutting a bit, lightly tooting their horns. Made
me think of a brass band just gathering in the assembly area before the start
of a parade. Indeed at 3:15 they all went walking north
Janie Leff and I went today and saw plenty of Sand hill cranes along with a
bunch of pintails and shovelers and other ducks in the pond near the nature
center. And, thanks to Suan, Janie almost immediately spotted the Red headed
woodpecker in the row of trees in the parking lot, lakeside.

Thanks Suan.
There were 31 cranes at Visitor Center pool last Friday morning and, from
the Seneca Trail tower one can see the adult eagle incubating her egg(s?).
The bugling calls the cranes were making was worth the price of admission.

P.S. Come to my talk on the upcoming solar eclipse.
The Visitor Center has been hosting a dozen or more Sandhill Cranes, plus a
good assortment of ducks. The wildlife drive does not open until April 1,
so besides a short walk to the lookout platform, there's not much else to
check out in the main entrance area. Other sites may be worth exploring
I was thinking of going to montezeuma this week. Any input from the group would
be appreciated
