Tree Sparrows have been here for a week now as White-Crowns departed.
Plenty of Goldfinch and Juncos now and the White-throats are sparse but
settling in for the winter. Have yet to see a Rough-legged but wintering
Red-tails are here in numbers . I expect that the pheasant pens should be

I wrote too soon. I’ve got 2 Fox Sparrows. Then an American Tree Sparrow
showed up, FOS. After that a large group of Juncos showed up, but I’ve been
getting them. The Red Bellied Woodpeckers have shown up. I’ve rarely had them
for the past year so I’m delighted to see them regularly again.
Just had my first returning White Throated Sparrow. It had the brown stripes
on its head rather than the white ones, but it had a lovely white throat.
Lillian Stokes said she had them in NH at her home. It sure got here fast.

Well better late than never I guess. I had a Pine Siskin, finally. There may
be two of them, but I only saw one.One was on the feeder and I thought I
heard another vocalizing not far away. The first time I ever had one in my
yard was at this time of year. My White Crown Sparrows, 4, are
We never got any White-throated Sparrows this year. Did get a couple of
White-Crowned. We have a loyal population of Pine Siskins due to the
thistle feeder I put up. They started hear when there was just sunflower
seed but they really seem to love thistle seed.
A moment ago I thought I heard
And right on the other side of the road from my house, about 30' into the
empty mowed field next to an iced over wet spot. 2 common snipe, feeding or
trying to feed. I had a great look at them for quite awhile before they
left.
