Just saw what I believe to be a brown Eastern Screech Owl in the nest box
on the west side of the Swan Pen in Stewart park.

I saw the Eastern Screech-Owl in the opening of its hole at the Dandy Mart
at noon today. The cavity is about half way up a tree at the back edge of
the parking lot on the left side of the Dandy Mart on Rt. 79 in the village
of Slaterville Springs (in the town of Caroline). If you don’t see a
I got up in the middle of the night to put wood on the fire, and it was quite
light outside: full moon and cloudless skies. As I walked past the porch door I
noticed a familiar silhouette, an Eastern Screech-Owl perched on a box about a
foot from the glass! Our heat loss was its gain, I hope.
The Eastern Screech-Owl was in it's usual hole in a tree at the back of the
Dandy Mart parking lot in Slaterville Springs at around 4:30 yesterday. I
checked for it earlier in the afternoon, and it wasn't visible, but when I
went by at 4:30, it was sitting at the edge of the hole looking

We heard from a friend that the Eastern Screech-Owl was back in the tree

Our local Screech Owls were calling continuously last night as the eclipse
began, but they went silent as the moon dimmed into totality. Coincidence??

On both Saturday and Sunday morning we heard the whinny call of a screech owl
just before 6:am. Seems we are a stopping ground for screechies on the move
over the last three years-and just for a couple of days in the fall.
While watching the eclipse from our driveway we had a super clear and
Hi all,
Last night I heard an Eastern Screech Owl trilling and in between trilling he
made some kind of squeaky cooing noises. This is the first time I have heard
such calls. So I dragged myself out of my bed to fetch the recorder which was
still packed away in my bag from my trip to Montana.
Driving down 96 into town today, there was a suspiciously rusty-colored
snowball on the shoulder. I pulled over and walked back, and sure enough,
there was a red morph Eastern Screech-Owl. It was alive but looking poorly.
By the time I got my coat off to get my sweater off so I had something to

I got my daughter and family home from the airport at about 9:00 last night. We

This morning I noticed a screech-owl face in my owl box while eating my

a flicker or titmouse if I'm lucky. But if I recall correctly, this is the time
of year they start to roost in the box again.

This morning, while eating breakfast, I discovered a Screech Owl roosting in a
cavity not far from the house. It had some peace for an hour or so, but the
chickadees have found it out now.
We also have a new yard bird- Pine Siskin. Not a bad way to start my birthday!
