Greetings! This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of May 30 , 
2010

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     5/30: 2, presumably, male PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS have taken up residence on 
Armitage Road west of the canal bridge. They have been heard and seen 
throughout 
the week. No news of a female yet. An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER has been reported just 
west of the warblers.
     6/1: At Tschache Pool KILLDEER, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, BLACK-BELLIED 
PLOVER, 
SPOTTED SANDPIPER, RUDDY TURNSTONE, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, 
DUNLIN and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen. The Semi Sandpipers numbered an 
incredible 625. At least 40 BALD EAGLES were on the pool also. At 
Knox-Marsellus 
Marsh GREAT EGRET and SANDHILL CRANE were seen.
     6/4: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was seen at Tschache Pool.


Madison County
-------------

     5/31: 6 Shorebird species including WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen at 
Ditchbank Road. On Lakeport Road Peep, RUDDY TURNSTONE, and DUNLIN were seen.


Oswego County
------------

     5/31: A WILLET was spotted at Derby Hill.
     6/1: A LAUGHING GULL was seen at Derby Hill.
     6/2: BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and DUNLIN were seen on the breakwalls at Oswego 
Harbor.
     6/4: A WHITE PELICAN was found on Wantry Island on Oneida Lake. It was 
spotted from shore in Constantia. It was still present yesterday (6/5). Also 
present on the near rocky island are RUDDY TURNSTONE, RED KNOT, and 
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER. a breeding plumage COMMON LOON has been seen quite 
close to shore.
     6/4: 2 BLACK TERNS were seen on the rocky island.


Herkimer County
------------
     5/31 an ORCHARD ORIOLE was found at Kast Bridge north of Herkimer. 
     6/3: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was found on Third Lake Creek Trail. Many 
warblers were also found but no other Boreal Species were seen there or at 
Ferd’s Bog.


Onondaga County
------------

     6/6: A BLACK VULTURE was seen soaring near the Dewitt Wegmans. a PRAIRIE 
WARBLER was found on Meeker Hill Road west of Tully.


Jefferson County
------------

     6/3: A MARBLED GODWIT was seen in a wet area at the intersection of Rt.3 
and Rt.193 near Southwick Beach State Park. It was refound the nest morning but 
no reports since.
