This morning a full eight inches of heavy wet snow covers everything at my
place in the West Danby hills. The Phoebe on a twig out the window looks black.
Yesterday's fog-bound flock of twenty-some Yellow-rumps and one Nashville
Warbler must still be around here someplace.

Late yesterday afternoon I counted 5 Pine Siskins at our feeders, and this
morning there are at least 8. We got about 5 inches of very wet snow here
on South Rd in Caroline.
This late snow could bring some interesting things into feeders so keep an

My feeder was more popular than usual this morning, with handsome
chipping sparrows milling about photogenically against the white
backdrop. A songlike sparrow sat for a while looking almost
lincoln-ish, but flushed before I could get my camera or otherwise
convince myself that it wasn't just a
I haven't had a Pine Siskin at my feeders (at least when I was watching) all
season. This morning there was a large flock of American Goldfinches littering
the trees and with them were at least six Pine Siskins. Clearly either feast

snowless outfield and second-base area, plus a pair of Mallards waddling by.
Only 2 inches heavy, wet snow at Lansing Stat. Rd., but many trees and bushes

When I walked in home today, there was a Purple Finch singing from my Poplar
tree. I have been hearing him a last few days. But recently, I also heard and
saw a Goldfinch almost sounding like a purple Finch. I had never heard this
call from an Am. Goldfinch.

This morning on the way to work, I saw 15-20 AMERICAN PIPITS along Powell Rd
and Hickok Rd near Interlaken, especially Hickok Rd. They were in the tire
tracks in the snow, which exposed some of the ground or pavement.
