Heard and saw a small flock of Evening Grosbeaks @ 7:30 this morning in
northbound flight over Bald Hill Rd. in Danby.
Also, while biking to Ithaca I was surprised to hear a White-crowned Sparrow
singing in the landscaped intersection between Barnes Noble and Wegmans.

Unfortunately almost the first bird of the day was a BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLER who sang once as I stepped out the back door of the lab, then flew up
from a perch probably on our BBQ grill a couple feet from the windows, smacked
it, broke his neck and fell to the ground. I picked him up hoping
This morning up the hill on Bostwick Rd, I heard at least three singing

Decent morning at the Hawthorn Orchard. Regular movement of birds.
Highlights: ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, Tennessee Warblers, Prairie Warbler, Pine
Siskin.
Hawthorns are in near full bloom with Tortricid larvae hatch well under way.
This weekend is shaping up nicely for the Hawthorn Orchard to
Through a miscommunication now authoritatively corrected, the previously
mentioned Kentucky Warbler this AM was a NASHVILLE WARBLER (which I still
didn't see).

The Ruff just flew with yellowlegs to the other side of the thruway and out
of sight, but is probably out on the mudflats on that side. The ibis is
still visible.

My addition to the hawthorn reports is a (the?) yellow-throated vireo which
sang from a tall tree across the recway from the SW entrance, flying a couple
times but not staying put long enough to get my binoculars on it before flying
off.
Also a green heron calling from the small pond.

I found this breeding plumaged Ruff at Larue’s Lagoon on the drive at MNWR. I
watched it for awhile. Then Mark Miller showed up and he took some more
photos. I posted it with BirdLog NA. I called others to come and look but
the bird flew off to the north.
Usually 11 warblers on May 10th isn't so exceptional, but this year it
felt like a jackpot! Late in the morning there was a (live)
BLACK-THROATED BLUE hanging out with two or three BLACK-THROATED GREENS
at the northeast corner of the Hoyt Pileated Trail. Initially he sang a
weird song partway
Just had a Ruby-throated Hummingbird at the azalea by our front porch on
Savercool Rd off Rte 89. The initial attraction seemed to be a small hybrid
lilac blooming nearby. It did not stay long, probably due to two large
critters sitting within a yard or two.
