Re: [cayugabirds-l] Injured Great Blue Heron

2021-08-10 Thread Linda Orkin
People are working on relocating this bird but meanwhile Christine Bogdanowicz
had the following app recommended to her. Might be good to have this on your
phone

And keep your eyes out.

 Dear Linda,
Thank you for sending this message along. My friend Krissy Boys (Cornell
Botanic Gardens staff) told me about this bird yesterday afternoon and I
hadn’t though to post on the list serve!

Krissy contacted the Cornell Wildlife Clinic and I contacted some rehabber
friends as well, but nobody with experience catching a GBH was available
to help. Morgan Hapeman from the Finger Lakes Raptor Center in Lodi
suggested we contact the local branch of the DEC, so I’m hoping do that
 this morning.

Thanks again—hoping we can help this bird.

 Take care,
 Christine

[cayugabirds-l] Cayuga Bird Club trip to Colombia

2021-08-10 Thread Jody Enck
Hi everyone,
We are fast approaching the billing date for this trip, and we are still
two people short of making the trip a "GO". If you are sitting on the
fence and wondering whether or not you want to do, please contact me so I
can I answer any questions you might have. If we don't get two more folks
to sign up in the next 2 weeks, we will cancel the trip (again), and may
not be able to rebook it in the future. If you have concerns about covid
or anything like that, please contact me off-line so we can chat. I have a
couple American friends who are in Colombia on bird tours right now and who
are providing me with almost daily information.

Thanks in advance for your interest.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Wildlife rehab???

2021-08-10 Thread Alicia
If this means that an adult goose will have to be caught and taken to
the vet school, seems like that's a job for more than one person!  I
can't get over east of Ithaca today but maybe a few people have time to
volunteer & John could give more specific directions?  Or John, if you
think you have this on your own, let us all know.

John
You could try contacting Janet Swanson wildlife clinic at Cornell veterinary
College 253-3060.

See website for how to handle injured animal/ bird. (I am sure you know most of
this),
Clinic hours, map, etc.
www.vet.cornell.edu

Off hours, one takes animal to vet school small animal clinic to meet an
on-call wildlife clinic person.

[cayugabirds-l] Injured Great Blue Heron

2021-08-10 Thread Linda Orkin
Hello all,

This morning along Forest Home Drive near Flat Rock a young Great Blue Heron
with an apparent wing injury was seen. Attempts to approach only resulted in
him disappearing into the woods. This is just a heads up that if anyone is in
that area today keep an eye out. And I don’t have any idea how this bird could
be caught and restrained and rescued but I’m sure there are people out there
with experience. Sad time of year for young naive beings.
