It's not unheard of. We have an established barn owl breeding on Owasco
Lake. We have heard it and seen it's shape, heard begging babies and two
owls calling at the same time during summer nights for at least 8 years. If
there is successful nesting going on so close, it seems reasonable that the
I go out to fill our bird feeders after dark every day. Sometimes I
hear the call of a great horned owl, barred owl, or screech owl.
Wednesday night I think I heard a barn owl scream--a very even trill
lasting 2-4 seconds, repeated every minute or so about 6 times. I
never heard this call before.
Last night, I recorded a very good candidate for BARN OWL as a nocturnal
migrant over Etna, NY. The bird called twice as it passed over, with the first
being more distant than the second, at approximately 11:54pm. I have posted

I am looking for a Barn Owl to photograph. Does anyone know the location
of a suitable candidate where I can hopefully wait for an evening
appearance?

Recorded in flight over my house in Danby (near Jennings Pond) last night about
4:15AM -- also, notable numbers of Grasshopper Sparrow flight calls the past
two nights.
