Just FYI, a willow ptarmigan was seen in VT a couple days after the last sighting in NY. From photos posted, it appears to look the same as the one on point peninsula (white phase). I’m not sure about the reports from Canton of the bird being found dead, it may have been to discourage people from invading point peninsula. (I know there was a lot of negative feelings from some of the locals about all the crowds that showed up - myself included).
