Also yesterday PM, a pair of croaking Ravens treated me to a fun flight display
over the front yard.

A Raven pair is pretty evident lately around the traditional nesting area in
the hemlocks on the steep northern slope of 1,920’ “Sorry Hunter Hill” (not so
named on any maps), West Danby. Right now they’re talking: one giving a “krawk
krawk krawk” and the other deep and resonant “gronk” calls
?Sorry for the late post but I had two Common Ravens in flight on Saturday just

Just now, out doing chores at our place in Mecklenburg, I watched 13 ravens

Today, as the June mowing of the last few days was smelling good, but causing
confusion among the previously nesting Red-winged Blackbirds and Bobolinks, a
group of Ravens parked themselves on fields next to my house.
I suspect this is the same group as flew through earlier in the week—there
Hi all,
Yesterday I hiked about 4 mile loop of Bob Cameroon loop in the afternoon with
Cayuga Trails Club. Only bird on the hike was one Chickadee. Of course I do
not spish or use playbacks.
As we were leaving Tower station on Tower road there was a crisp shiny Raven
circling and calling.
Hi all
For this past week we have been seeing up to four ravens at a time flying over
our house on Hunt Hill Road, Dryden. This morning there has been one adult
flying back-and-forth and the sounds of a fledgling in the distance over the
trees. The adults flying over are always accompanied by
My local Ravens have not yet fledged, though they may be hopping around on the
dense hemlock branches (I couldn't see young in the nest, but the parents are
still defending the immediate area).
Cypripedium acaule is now in flower there!

On an otherwise unbirdy morning, three RAVENS flew over our field on their
way from Taughannock gorge to Frontenac gorge. Within minutes we were
notified that a courageous friend had passed on in the early hours of the
morning. This is going to be an exceptional day. Carpe diem.

In my (new) neck of the woods on S Danby Rd, ravens are an almost daily
sighting, either at home or on the way down the hill to 96. It is wonderful
to have them around after so many years without them until just a few years
ago.

Yesterday I finished Berndt Heinrich's Mind of the Raven, which I can
highly recommend. Today at about 6pm waiting at the stop light at the
Dey St. exit from Rt 13, two Ravens flew over in the direction of the
farmer's market. One was being harassed by a blackbird.
Happy birding...

I spotted one of my local Ravens carrying nest material in the direction of
their traditional nest area this morning. Snow Geese and Canada Geese continue
passing overhead.

After the snow stopped this afternoon, I set up my scope to do a little

often do during courtship. All 3 pairs were in a kettle, circling

I've also been enjoying the East Hill ravens, although I haven't seen any young
ones so far. I live just up from the upper trail going into Six Mile Creek, on
Giles St. Sometimes a raven will fly out from the woods, over Giles St, and
over the neighboring yards. Generally what

Hi all,
I was working in the kitchen when I heard some strange hissing or heavy
breathing like calls. So I thought may be wood-chuck was making this call as
she and her babies were feeding on clover in the backyard. Then the calls got
loud and seem to be coming from the front yard. So I opened

Where there are usually two ravens in the neighborhood, this morning at 6:30
a.m. there were 7 flying overhead, with at least two vocalizing. I wonder if
this could be both parents and new fledglings already?

I think May 17th is an early but possible date for Raven fledglings. If you're
around the area frequently, their loud begging calls should give them away. In
fact they get pretty darned loud even before they leave the nest. You can often
hear Raven nestlings from several thousand feet away.
I have been surprised to see a Common Raven a couple times this spring along major roads between Ovid and Seneca Falls, which I hadn't figured on being their habitat, (but neither did I think Pine Tree Road in Ithaca was). I also saw a possible Northern Goshawk thereabouts, but perhaps it was

I looked out our front windows a bit ago and saw 4 large, dark birds milling
