Re: [cayugabirds-l] red-bellied woodpecker

2022-03-02 Thread Sigrid Connors
We’ve had a pair of red bellied WP all winter along with the Hairy and
several pairs of Downy’s.
Just had our FOY Yellow Bellied Sapsucker on Sunday. Still waiting to
see/hear our Pileated WP.

NE Groton on Old Stage Road.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] red-bellied woodpecker

2022-03-01 Thread Asher Hockett
In Danby at both places, Comfort Rd and South Danby Rd, we had year round
Red-bellied Woodpeckers. As common as chickadees (almost) they were, and
were a main reason I had for moving to there.

I have seen this behavior, too. I think it is advertising possession of a nest
cavity ready to share.

Yesterday I saw a red bellied woodpecker on a tree right across from
llenroc on Cornell Ave, very close to the curb on the cemetery side of the
road perched above what looked like it might be a nest hole. It was
kwirring quite a bit.

[cayugabirds-l] Red-bellied Woodpecker at the Downy Cafe

2014-05-09 Thread Caro
Anyone seen this before?
Yesterday a female Red-bellied Woodpecker was eating from the nest hole of two
Downy Woodpeckers while they dove on her and yelled for all they were worth.
Sheesh, the brutality of Spring isn't for weak human eyes.

On the bright side, my West Hill yard/property has yielded over fifty species
so far today! Highlights were parulas, Bobolinks, and Swainson's Thrush.

[cayugabirds-l] Red-bellied woodpecker behavior

2012-07-10 Thread M K Mannella
Yesterday we had a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER plucking bees right from a hive/nest
which is tucked up under the gutters. He was only about a foot from the windows
and came back several times. I was quite surprised to see him so close to the
house but was happy to see him that close up.
