Lee Ann, Good luck with your owling.
No, entering sightings into eBird will not get them on the Christmas Count. Go ahead and enter them, but make sure you also send your data to your area coordinator, or if you're doing feeder watching to Holly on the phones at the Lab (254-bird). Kevin p.s. Although starting with small owls and going larger seems logical, a study looking at that found no effect of order on response. But, talk to my kids about the response of a Barred Owl to Saw-whet Owl calls. It sure seemed to be looking for a late night snack. -----Original Message----- From: bounce-7624360-3493...@list.cornell.edu [mailto:bounce-7624360-3493...@list.cornell.edu] On Behalf Of Lee Ann van Leer Sent: Friday, December 31, 2010 6:51 PM To: cayuga bird list Subject: [cayugabirds-l] 1) Owl Prowl by lwr Buttermilk anyone? 2) e-bird/CBC ? 1) Anyone interested in owl prowling adjacent to lower Buttermilk? I'm thinking of pulling an all nighter and live close enough to start making periodic checks for owls. Please email me your phone number privately and how late I can call or I'll email my # privately. I have a new speakers for my iPhone I can test out and I have the iBird Pro recordings. Is it true that if attempting to call in multiple owl species you should start with the smallest owls first so as not to scare them off with the larger owl calls? Ithaca Cemetery: I've found screech owls there before and didn't hear anyone mention covering that spot. I won't be able to go there but perhaps someone doing that area? Cemeteries are good spots but does one risk getting arrested trying to owl there at night? 2) CBC count week & ebird If I enter sightings in to ebird locally during count week will they be added to count week if I find anything not already sighted? OR Should I be sending a copy of my ebird reports to someone? I'll see you at the lab for the compliation & dinner everyone. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ -- -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
