Hi,
I am a student and would like to use Centos to learn how to use the linux.
Two versions of CentOS available: CentOS Linux and CentOS Stream.
Which one is better for learning Linux?

There is no single package libreoffice in CentOS 8. Instead there are
several packages for each libreoffice
How do you install libreoffice. yum install libreoffice did not do it,
doing a search on "centos 8 install libreoffice" did not provide anything.
Thanks

Heads up, Hyper-V Gen 2, CentOS 8 Server with GUI install results in a black
screen as updates are needed for X to properly detect and load the video. If
you can ssh into the box, do a yum update and it should grab the needed
updates, then reboot.

I recently upgraded to Centos 7.7 and when I rebooted everything seemed
to be OK except that pidgin failed to connect to gtalk with the error

After trying several configuration changes with no luck I tried pidgin
on a host that was still running Centos 7.6 and it had the

That is a term for a package in the repo (and generally for any
project), that is technically working, but no one is watching over it.
Some maintainers speak openly about it, but some
Hi,
there is an option in sesman.ini called KillDisconnected. This could be
what you are looking for [1]. There is also an option called
DisconnectTimeLimit to set your custom timeout [2]. But I haven't
tested this method.
A more graceful method should be letting your desktop environment

I just installed CentOS 8 in a VirtualBox VM, to explore it.
Immediately, I noticed something strange. I insatlled it using a
kickstart file, whose partitioning section is this:
zerombr
clearpart --all --initlabel
reqpart --add-boot
part pv.01 --ondisk=/dev/sda --size=1 --grow
volgroup vg01 pv.01
Hello,
I have a machine with Centos7, Plasma desktop and XRDP. Many people
log in the machine, and then press 'X' of the rdp window, instead of
logging off. Is there a way to automatically log off their sessions,
similar to MS Windows setting?
Thanks,
Its looking for /lib/modules/{kernel}/build/.config where build is SYM
link to /usr/src/kernels... etc
What package do I need for that ?
I think somehow the /usr/lib/modules/{kernel}/build LINK was not set right
???
Mine shows build {in red when doing ls}
So I am investigating I also noticed
(sorry about previous item - hit return and was not intending to).
Compiling on CentOS 8 and getting error "You do not appear to have the
kernel sources loaded".
I have kernel, kernel-devel, and kernel-headers all loaded.
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Jerry

Hi ,
You can also check if BOOM boot manager can work with thin LVM.
I really like that feature, since CentOS7.x

Hi folks,
I've noted that the CentOS 8 debuginfo repo lacks the repodata/ directory:
http://debuginfo.centos.org/8/x86_64/
Did the maintainers forget to upload it? It does have all the .rpm
files under the Packages/ sub-directory though:

Hi there!
Im new here.
Im trying to install Centos 8 on my laptop. I also want to have a
contingency plan in case something brakes.
My first thoughts were to use LVM.
The idea is that i would take multiple snapshots of the system during
the day/week and will keep them for a short time.
I read

RHEL/CentOS 8 is created from Fedora 28/29 packages and kernel, but Red
Hat does backport important drivers to it's kernel. RHEL/CentOS kernel
is not directly comparable
I used 819 / 333 (hex) - 1024 x 768 x 16.
Enough to see the full install screen.
I'm doing it the easy way on our new production VMs - select EFI boot in the
VM's boot options and it all works.

It is not so much issue with GNOME as with driver for VMware
