I am working in Centos5.5. Pen drive, hard disk, cd are not being
recognised. During booting, mounting local filesystems [failed] is
displayed among other errors which I am unable to see as the messages
proceed fast. Are these messages stored in some file, so that I can check
them and report all

I pressed the tab probe by mistake near bind to MAC address in
system-administration-network-edit-hardware device. After this the MAC
address disappeared. Internet is not working. Shall I write the MAC address

I always mount the hard disk in read write by the command ntfs-3g /dev/sda1
/media/harddisk umask=0. cut, copy, paste works fine when I perform these
operations by mouse.

When I give the command cp file1 file2 then the error comes:
cp: cannot create regular file `file2': Input/output error
This occurs sometimes and it occurs when I am giving the command inside a
external hard disk which is mounted by ntfs-3g manually.
Why does this error come?
I updated the package system-config-lvm, so now i can see
system-administration-logical volume management

I have a executable and when i run it then the error comes:
/lib64/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.7' not found
I don't have the source code of the executable. And I can't find glibc 2.7
for centos 5.5.

When seagate hard disk mounts on my laptop, nothing can be cut from the
hard disk to the laptop. Nothing can be cut or copied from the laptop to
the hard disk.
Also I am not able to change permissions of files on the hard disk.
What can I do to resolve the problem?
I also want glibc 2.7 for a particular application to run. The first step
mentioned is :

I did not understand what will this rpm do? I mean is that a substitute for

After installing kmod-fuse rpm, I had given /dev/sda3/mnt/winntfs
rw,umask=,defaults in the file /etc/fstab. Then I gave mount /mnt/win.
But I couldn't copy files from system to the hard disk so I removed
kmod-fuse by rpm -e command. I installed fuse-ntfs-3g rpm. Now what are the

The system is DELL laptop. So i am not sure if the cable of the internal PC
speaker can be pulled. In preferences-sound-system beep, i unchecked the
option enable system beep. This solves the problem, but is there any way
to change the system beep?

kmod-ntfs-2.1.27-3.el5.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
I mounted Seagate external hard disk. I am able to copy contents from the
hard disk to the system but not from the system to the hard disk.

This problem is occuring since the time I have updated firefox. Also
whenever I open facebook the system hangs and sometimes logs out. But sites
like yahoo, gmail, orkut are opening.

I installed CentOS5.5 on Dell Inspiron N5010. During partitioning, when I
created swap = 6GB then additional 4MB free space was created and when I
created ext3 for linux=217GB, then additional 7MB free space was created.
Didn't understand why these 2 extra free spaces were created.
I was doing the installation on DELL inspiron laptop and this problem
occurred for CentOS5.5 but not for CentOS5.3. So shall I install CentOS5.3
and then do yum update?

I did installation of CentOS5.5 in text mode and made changes at the
following places in the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf :
section device
identifier : vesa
driver:vesa
section screen
device:vesa
Also in the file /etc/inittab I changed id:3:initdefault to id:5:initdefault
so that I can boot linux in

For burning the image on DVD I found 2 iso files:
CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-1of2.iso
CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-2of2.iso
I found out that the first one is 4.1GB and the second one is 412MB. Do I
have to burn the first one on 1 DVD and the second one on another DVD?
