The main problem existed between the keyboard and chair. When the VMware host was installed some time ago it was neglected to configure NTP on the host itself, hence the time had drifted quite significantly. So when open-vm-tools came up, it synced off the VMware host system time and over-rode the VM's hardware clock. Then when chrony came up later in the boot process it pushed the time back correctly. Now with NTP running on the VMware host the boot is clean with SSSD and Network Manager are functioning as expected Frustrating. Given I'm at +11 from UTC the system clock does not appear to be jumping to UTC. I'm running 3.10.0-514.2.2.el7.x86_64 with yum reporting no patches. This is a VM running on ESXi 5.6. Re: [CentOS] Avago (LSI) SAS-3 controller, poor performance on CentOS 7
For the archive's sake: https://plus.google.com/+GordonMessmer/posts/H5DuyP1LHPU?sfc=false https://plus.google.com/+GordonMessmer/posts/eSe6iNmk1Fs?sfc=false During testing, I found that under CentOS 7.2, the default storage layout for software RAID5 was the worst possible configuration. 512k blocks perform noticeably worse than 64k blocks, and LVM had a tremendous impact as well. After upgrading to CentOS 7.3, which features a newer mpt3sas driver, performance improved significantly. LVM's overhead has decreased to an acceptable level (from my point of view). Because chunk size has a significant impact on performance, I'm going to file an RFE to change the default chunk size for RAID5 and RAID6 volumes. ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

Be careful about expecting VLANs to provide security. VLANs are for traffic management are not directly a security tool. I do something like this (although FreeBSD is my dhcp server) only I do like the original proposal, two addresses on the DHCP server and both subnets configured. Part of my dhcp configuration includes: shared-network shared { # Primary subnet subnet 192.168.30.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option routers 192.168.30.1; max-lease-time 86400; default-lease-time 86400; authoritative; range 192.168.30.48 192.168.30.59; } # Secondary subnet subnet 192.168.40.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option routers 192.168.40.1; max-lease-time 86400; default-lease-time 86400; authoritative; } } # end of shared-network shared host ip-phone-1 { hardware ethernet 00:0b:82:xx:xx:xx; ## fixed-address 192.168.30.129; fixed-address 192.168.40.129; } There are other things necessary to make this all work. I also have a FreeBSD system acting as a router between the subnets and my ISP connection. I also have a caching dns service on both subnets (I didn't include the dns related configuration in the example above). As others have suggested, this also is NOT a security technique. The systems in each address space will have access to systems in the other address space even without a router. I don't distinguish between trusted and untrusted networks, I assume all are untrusted and secure the systems themselves as needed. Re: [CentOS] Reliable way of having both LAN and WIFI on headless box
You could say the same thing about computers in general: I hate them, they automated many tasks in life and took many jobs out of the market!. I will put this into a cron job to bring the link back up if it drops. However, as you can see it shouldn't ne needed. One more reason I hate NetworkManager [root@lcomp2 ~]# nmcli con show RW-WIFI |grep connection.autoconnect connection.autoconnect: yes connection.autoconnect-priority:0 connection.autoconnect-slaves: -1 (default) [root@lcomp2 ~]# Gary ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
