Re: [CentOS] no more single cd installs?

2009-07-14 Thread Radu Radutiu
Installs from the first CD still work. You just need to make sure that
you chose Customize software packages now instead of the default
Customize later and deselect every package on the next screen. It
has worked for me on all CentOS v5 (including 5.3) and Fedora 9,10
and 11. Later you can use yum to add the Base group and any other
required packages.

Radu

It should be in your path Eugene. I just finished an install and yum
worked perfectly. Just make sure you choose linux text and de-select
everything including base.

Choosing minimal installation (at the end of the page when you choose
custom installation) will give you a perfect working installation with
init:3 as default.
Then it's just a matter of yum install / groupinstall foo and inittab
editing to have a graphical environment available.

it should make zero difference. You *should* get an identical install
with either the Text or the GUI install modes ( for that matter, even
with the right ks.cfg )

The latest one I did was last january, then cloned the machines via
clone-zilla ... probably it's then a remembering of the Scientific Linux
4.7 that I've installed last friday :-P

I've had this issue with the 5.3 install as well. I found that using the
text interface (as opposed to the default graphical interface) and
de-selecting everything except Base and Editors (you might not need this

The only way you are going to get a one-disk media install is to use

I've had no issues doing just base installs of CentOS 5.3 with only disk 1.
I would try again and double check that you only have base checked.

I've started using live media to build my CentOS or Fedora 'client'
systems. And a KS file to build a server base image. It seems to be
working well, so far.
