My suggestion is to go install
http://www.lfarkas.org/linux/packages/centos/lfarkas.repo in your
/etc/yumconfig.d folder and run yum install virt-manager and maybe few

more needed packages. It is GUI for management of virtual machines. It
is under the Red Hat's wing and I used it to easily set ALL parameters
for install. There is no need for virt-install commands.

Yes. The 'virt-manager' application will let you use a disc in a drive
 as installation media.

 Greetings,

 - Original Message -
but i allredy have the freebsd disc image file on the server

DUH... I thought you were saying you had a disc or disc image of the
FreeBSD install media. You already have a FreeBSD VM disk image? In that
case, what is it from? Is it a KVM VM or did it come from some other virt
platform like VMware, VirtualBox, Parallels, Xen or what?

You may run into an issue with drivers if it came from another virt
platform that uses product specific tools (like VMware tools for
example)... where to make it work correctly you have to remove their
tools. This is probably less of an issue with a FreeBSD VM though.

There is also v2v which supposedly can convert a disk image of a VM from
one product format to another. I haven't used it. There should be good
documentation for v2v if you do a search.

I think I managed to get FreeBSD 9 installed using the freebsd 8.x
virsh/virt-manager profile. After this I installed the virtio drivers.
Wat have you tried?

I warn you FreeBSD on KVM+Centos is terrible, really bad performance,
even with virtio drivers.
CPU stays at 20% even when doing nothing and network performance is
abysmal.
I believe there are going to be big improvements in v10, though.

I have about ten installations of pfSense 2 in CentOS/KVM as FreeBSD 8.x
profile and experience no problems except significant CPU load at 50-100 Mbps
stream shaping/routing/filtering (about 50-60% of one Penitum G630 core at 75
MBps), but this is because of e1000 nics emulation (freebsd 8.x in pfsense 2
has no virtio drivers included as I can remember).

I too wanted to use PFSense on KVM/EL6 but network performance was
disappointing. My network engineers reverted to using VMware ESXi for
the time being.
My hope is with Fbsd 10 which includes virtio drivers by default (and
also has a SMP friendly PF : ).

BTW, here's a QCOW2 of it, import image as RHEL6 profile (has all the
virtio stuff):
http://li.nux.ro/download/openstack/images/fbsd10-snap-20130316-r248381-
TESTING.qcow2

The root passwd is password so change it ASAP!

Even with this image I could not saturate 1 Gbps link (just rudimentary
test with fetch -o /dev/null), but it's still an improvement.

Have you specified the image type? I have experienced virt-manager
not recognizing the image type (raw|qcow2) - specifying it solves the boot

[CentOS-virt] vmware on centos cluster

2008-09-11 Thread Mattias Hemmingsson
Hello

I have one question about cluster and vmware.
I have about 10 computers they are all old once from 1g and 256 ram.

And now im thinking of putting them all toghter in one cluster.
This cluster should be an high performing so all computers share they
performance.

Now on this cluster i whould like to install one vmware server and make
that vmware server get the power from all these computers.
And install a os in that vmware server.

Is this the way passible to do ?
