It might be useful to determine your business needs as opposite to what features developers want to play with. If you have no use for the additional features in your project(s) it might be a decision based on emotions instead of rational arguments and the extra investment might never pay itself

If you hook to Oracle, you really need Enterprise. No, not necessarily. You may be able to get what you need with Oracle's own JDBC drivers. I seem to recall hearing about problems with the Oracle thin client and BLOB/CLOB fields, but you could also use the Oracle OCI JDBC driver. Of course,
