Yes you can do it fairly easily, but if search engine placement is any concern for your client, this approach will get them de-listed or drop their rankings VERY quickly. Bots will not index a site that has re-directs setup like that as it is a well known search engine spamming technique!!!

Don't you hate it when someone answers your question with a question: But why does your client insist on confounding user's expectations and risk pissing them off? Unless I'm dealing with a web app that requires a login or something similar, I know I'd be frustrated with that type of user
