Re: [Chat] Apartment for rent and rooms for rent

2014-05-11 Thread regina ARMENTA
Wow!  We are actually looking for an apartment while the house is being fixed.
I'm sure you already know but Spud and Steph's house caught on fire and our
house caught next.  All of my apartments are not liveable and we all are
looking for housing during this process. What is the cost including utilities?
We have a small dog that is under 20 lbs and has his own FB page.

Hope we can come look at it :)

OK, just had a scare and frustrating experience with the police.  While
relaxing
on our back porch saw a guy climbing our back fence.  I yelled at him and he
said he was there to get his dope.  He apologized  and said he'd never come
back.  He grabbed his bag and left quietly.  I went out there and found another
bag of pot.  Called the police.  Guy returned, tried to scale our fence looking
for what he left behind.  Paul yelled at him and he asked to speak to Paul, who
obviously refused.  Called 911 again.  Cops finally came 20 min. later.
Officer
could care less.  Gave him the pot, he took my name and DOB.  I asked if he
wanted to see the back and told him that the druggie was here 5 minutes ago and
he could care less and left.  Extremely rude and uncaring.

If anyone has the name of the No. District contact, please forward.  This is
unacceptable.

Regina--

I had a horrible rat problem in the back yard several years ago.  When the city
began its recycling program, I got serious and bought trashcans with lids for
garbage and recycling containers.  That cut way back.

I'm sure you already cover trash, but those who don't should seriously consider
putting lids on trashcans.

Mice?  I'd like some ideas too.

An occasional

mouse but not a huge deal.  I was wondering what people are doing around the
area for mice and rats.  Our back yard definitely has a rat problem but
last year I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned more, all summer and spent a lot of

 Hi all-

We just had a new window put in on the back of our house, and still have the
old

storm window frames left over.  If anyone wants them -- they should be the
standard size of the window frames for houses in this neck of the woods --
 they

are free to anyone who comes over to our house on the 3100 block of Abell to
take them away.  If no one claims them by Tuesday or so they'll get taken to
the

dump.  Send me an email directly if you're interested.

Hi everybody!

Does anyone have a line a good and preferably local CPA or tax lawyer?  I am
pretty good with taxes and such but I have questions regarding capital gains
from a land trust that are a bit beyond my knowledge/capabilities.  I would
love
to be able to talk to someone (and pay them for their time, obviously) just to
figure out what I should be doing about it.  Thanks in advance!

Hi folks,

There's a sweet, affectionate, playful grey cat - dubbed Baxter - who
is looking for a new family after being left behind by his first
family about 2 months ago.

Since then, Baxter has been living on Calvert between 28th and 29th
streets and numerous of us neighbors have been feeding him/her (still
not sure of sex).

Baxter has just gotten a full vet visit with shots thanks to neighbors
Matt and Marcia Herman, and now really needs a home since its getting
cold.

Is anyone out there destined to adopt this sweet creature?

Let me know.

 Action Alert http://www.cphabaltimore.org/pdf/action_alert.jpg

Come to City Hall Monday, November 1st!

Support President Young's efforts to televise Liquor Board, BMZA and
 Board
of Estimates Hearings so residents can see how decisions impacting
 their
 communities are being made.

Please attend the hearing on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 5pm

in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

Attend to support televising these important hearings.

Consider testifying as to why you think televising the Liquor Board,
 Board
of Estimates and BMZA hearings would make government more transparent.

 Background:

You and many of your neighbors know that these boards make
 determinations
about what is best suited for your community every week.

The public deserves to know how, why and who is making these
 decisions!
While all of these proceedings are in fact open to the public, they
 occur
during the day when most residents are working, and therefore unable
 to
 attend.

 Alternative Participation:

If you cannot attend but still want to support the effort, send an
 email to
 both

 michelle.wirzber...@baltimorecity.gov
 mailto:james.kr...@baltimorecity.gov james.kr...@baltimorecity.gov.

Describe your experience during Liquor Board, Board of Estimates and
 BMZA
hearings and state how you think televising the proceedings would
 make the
 process fairer.

Hi, everyone- particularly those in the 2700 block areas of Calvert, Guilford,
and St. Paul.  We just returned from a brief trip to the shore and came home to
find our cat, Rosie, (about 3 years old) missing.  She has a chip ID implant,
so
I am hoping someone will pick her up and have her checked.  But, if you see
her,
she is a dark tabby cat with splashes of white on her face, a stubby tail, and
a
white tummy that sways when she walks.  Most concerning to me is that when we
adopted her, she had previously been declawed, so she has been an indoor cat!
If you have seen her, please let us know.  We are very worried.
Cathy

Hello Everyone,
I'm not sure if you've noticed but on 27Th and St. Paul a woman that lives on
the second floor has been letting her large dog poop in the patch of grass/tree
area and does not picking it up. I believe she is a renter and maybe not on
this chat list. I'm sure it is not just her but I have personally seen her at
6:45am without a poop bag and letting her dog poop in that area more then once.
The pile is growing larger and larger and I think it may be at the point of
being a little unsafe. Does anyone know how to handle this. My second floor
tenant takes the bus everyday to work and came home completely upset about this.
Let me know if you have any advice.

 Hi, everyone-

Just wanting to share with folks my recent good experiences
at both the new Target in Mondawmin and at The Parkside
Restaurant, recently opened on Harford Road.

First the Target- been there twice now and the customer
service couldn't be better. Stopped in at two different
times- once it was quiet, had just opened for the day; the
other time, today, it was bustling, but STILL great service
and a well-cared for store. Felt very safe (obvious police
presence both times), parking was fantastic, particularly
compared to the dreadful parking at the Towson Target, and
was there in about 10 minutes from home! What an asset to
 the City!

Went with the family to Parkside Restaurant tonight for the
first time and sat in the children's
section, where we had a DELICIOUS meal, for a very
reasonable price, and watched the kids have a blast in the
play area fully stocked with toys, a fun raised platform
area, perfect for meal time performances from creative kids,
and it was cordoned off so we didn't need worry about
escapees while we dined! The manager stopped by the table
 and welcomed usLOVELY time!

Just wanted to share some holiday joy experienced,
delightfully, without a trek to a surrounding county! Happy
Holidays, everyone, and here's hoping these City gems
and those like them remain and prosper in the New Year!

Christine,

By all means, have the city send someone out to re-check your meter! Just
call the number on your statement for billing inquiries. Last summer, I got a
water bill for $900 when the meter reader inverted two numbers.

Also, you can check for a slow leak in your commodes by putting cold
coffee or a cola in your toilet tanks. If there's a slow leak, the water in
the bowl will turn brown. In all likelihood, the folks in the utilities
department will suggest this, so it's good to be able to tell them you've
already checked this possibility (As if a slow leak would increase your total
water usage by a factor of ten...!).

Hope this helps!

Kathleen

[Chat] Yoga for parents that have children

2007-08-23 Thread regina ARMENTA
Hello Everyone,
I have been teaching the yoga classes at St John's Church every Monday and
Thursday at 7am and at 9am. I have had many students that would like to
coordinate a child watching session or trade with other parents so they could
come to yoga. One option is to have one parent watch the children while the
others take class. Another option is that one parent goes to the 7am and one
watches and then they switch. If anyone is interested in being a baby sitter
for an hour and a half please call me and let me know so I can coordinate this
so everyone can enjoy the relaxation of a yoga class to start the day off
right.
  Thank you!

We have been in Charles Village for 9 years now and have enjoyed being part of
the community. Lately over the past 4 or so years our sales at Rocky Run have
slipped though and faced with continuous rising operating costs on our end, it
has been a difficult time for us.

After a lot of research, we have decided to try and do something with a
fresh, clean new look and that was perhaps a better fit in the neighborhood in
terms of a menu and price point. We are still a family friendly restaurant and
will continue to pride ourselves on that. We have kept all of the foods on our
menu that have done well for us over the years in terms of sales and guest
satisfaction (ie. burgers, nachos, cheesesteaks, wings, salads, crab dip crab
pretzel, etc. etc.. Some of the other items that were dropped were done so
because either they had become cost prohibitive (ie. steak, ribs) or they just
did not sell enough (ie. pasta, seafood) to warrant being on the menu.

We have also dropped our prices on both food and beverages with the hope of
being more attractive from that point of view.

I hope that you will give the new concept a try and am confident that you will
enjoy it.

Thank you,

ALSO, I just learned that CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT STEPHANIE RAWLINGS-BLAKE WILL
VISIT CHARLES VILLAGE during our festivities!! Please everyone extend her a
warm Charles Village Welcome and let her know how much we appreciate the
prompt responses we've been getting to our 311 calls, tree trimming requests
(one trim was way too zealous, but that's for another e-mail Ron, Gary, Ralph
and Mark!), crosswalk finishing, trash can pick-ups, etc. We are getting lots
of positive attention here in Charles Village. More is needed, more is coming
but let's say thanks for what's come our way so far!

Now, everyone is encouraged to attend the gathering closest to their home. If
for whatever reason that doesn't work for you, visit a neighboring gathering.
The idea is to get out, walk about, claim the neighborhood for ours, get some
safety education and, have a good time! And, definitely feel free to make a
dish that reflects your household's culture, ethnic background, vegetarianism,
snack attacks….whatever! Anyone making a dish from the soon to be published
Charles Village Cookbook should let us all know so that we can do an impromptu
taste test! And, if you're really feeling like you know your neighbors
already, consider going shopping together for special Charles Village NNO
provisions. Yesterday Ralph and I ran in to Linda and Cornel Rubino and Reggie
Parker down at the Farmers' Market under the Jones Falls Underpass
(overpass??). They were having a ball selecting Maryland heirloom tomatoes and
Maryland grown peaches for tomorrow night's gathering!
Whatever you decide to do, have fun, meet as many of your neighbors as
possible, make note of the safety

They have record of one letter being sent in Jan 2005 and no I did not receive
this. I actually get tickets quiet often for not looking at signs or just
running out of time at a meter. I have the Baltimore city on my bill payment
so I can make sure I just pay them right away. I thought this may be a good
resource to show how many parking tickets I have paid on time. I ordered my
bank statements for 2004 and when I get them I will know if I actually paid it
or not. If I have some something to bring to court, that can back me up, I
will look into it. If I can't find anything then I really feel like it would
be a waist of time. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happen to. As for
the web site I will research this and get back to you.
  Thank you!

I actually just received a parking ticket from 2004 that was
originally $27.00. The current bill is now $500.00 which I paid two
days ago. I called to find out what I could do and to prove my
consistency with paying parking ticket through out the years. I was
told that there was nothing they could do unless I wanted to request a
trial and in the mean time the ticket would go up $16.00 a day and if
the police find your car they will boot it and tow it! The trial does
not mean you will get the $500.00 waved. They informed me that people
will take tickets off of your car and put them on their own so they
don't get a ticket. Then they will throw them away. Okay I thought,
Well they must have more important things to do like finding people
that are committing violent crimes, but that doesn't seem to be the
case!!! Regardless, I wanted to let people know that they should check
on their cars for current tickets that you may not have received.

Linda Forlifer wrote:
It's distressing that the police do not believe such an incident to be
high in their priority list. When someone is stabbed and their
intestine is punctured, that is a life-threatening assault. Our police
should be trying to identify the criminals who are preying on our
neighborhood, and the detectives' reluctance to interview the people
involved seems to show that they are not giving us needed attention.

Recent CV robberies have been at gunpoint and knifepoint. According to
the police spokesman, Sterling Clifford, In the case of the
nonlife-threatening injury, it is not unusual for the detective not to
respond to the scene. Detectives did not interview Benjamin Treat
until 35 hours after the stabbing, and then only after he and his mother
called several times. I guess the police are telling us they will wait
til someone is killed before making extra efforts to apprehend the CV
criminals. That will be too late.

I do know some detail. The man who was assaulted was an older man that was
walking at night. This was the third time this has happen to him. He seems to
be a perfect target my neighbors told me. He is older and comfortable in the
neighborhood and even after all of this interaction, he still walks at night.

if that was random? a robbery in progress? or possibly a drug deal gone bad or

Many residents of Baltimore are comfortable knowing that because they're not

I was watching TV in a waiting room and caught this set on people speeding in
residential neighborhoods. The made these life size pictures out of some sort

police officer with a radar gun. They looked real and people slowed down. I
guess this guy will make them to look like you or your children. It's kind of
funny, but apparently even police stations want to order them

allowed stating that it was the day after the park clean up. He tore
them down and handed them to me crumbled out of his pocket. I took
the rest of them down to avoid any conflict. I have seen many flyers
put up around the park advertising community events. I can imagine
that this could be a problem if the flyers were not taken down after
they were out of date, therefore, becoming an eye sore. I am not sure
who this man was, but I wanted to know if this is a community
decision. I thought this was okay especially because the flyers I had
put up last week were still in the park a day after the park clean
up. My assumption was that people would have ripped them down
yesterday during clean up if they thought they were inappropriate.
I am a new home owner in the area and would like to know the general
etiquette for this type of situation.

Just wanted you to pass the word on to everyone in the house. A young
girl (early 20s) was riding her bike on the side walk across the street
from the Schnapp Shop when a group of young boys (9-12 year olds)
punched her in the face. This was last Friday.

Then today we ran into Rory and JW (they live on the corner of 28th and
Calvert St) - they informed us yesterday at 10:50PM right next to Matt
and Jules (the house with the large elevated back deck right behind
you) house on St. Paul their neighbor was assaulted by a group of young
men aged 16-18 no reason. He was working on his front yard when they
 approached him.

Please be careful - it appears that the gang initiation has started for
both the young and older groups of boys in the neighborhood. Also
time of day does not appear to be only during the night or evening for
these assaults - several people have reported being harassed early in the
morning on the way to their parked cars to go to work.

Also it is not only females with this most lastest attack on St. Paul.
The nice man at the Schnapp Shop that the police had informed him to
tell everyone to be aware of their surrounds and not to walk alone
(male or female) or with headphones on.

Oh, what a lovely hot summer - I can't wait for a good cold winter.

Sorry for the downer news but just want to keep you informed and aware
 - better to be safe than sorry. Especially after you have already had a
 run in with future thugs.

I agree! I love living here and the greatest part about it, is that we can
walk around. I saw these kids that day walking on both side of the street on
27th Calvert. I would say about 15 or 20 of them. They were loud enough for
me to stop and look out the window. I guess when this beating happen there
were people at the bus stop and did nothing. Two friends of ours came out with
their dog and tried to scare them away. I feel scared, but I don't want to
stay in the house. Maybe a block party/meeting so we could get to know each
other. I just moved in the area in Nov. I know my neighbors next door and
behind and a few here and there. I would love to be more connected.

work and would like to go to class and the 9:AM is so you can sleep in a
