Put
the electric on a manual switch? Would the manual fuel pump draw through it ok
after it was switched off? Or would I need some sort of switching device to
switch between one source or the other?

James. I a, in the middle of a "frame off" I never started the car since I
bought it. I am putting the 402 I bought in to be rebuilt now. I am just trying
to plan for the future when I let it sit for a month or two in between
starts.

Steve,
A mechanical fuel pump will do just fine. There are times where my 70 will go for a month (or longer) without even being cranked over. Two pumps of the gas and it fires right off every time without fail. My other 70 (yep I got 2 of them) was sitting for almost a year without cranking over
Robert,
I just finished putting my exhaust manifolds back on
my 66, I had to take the bolt out of the motor mount
on the drivers side and take my floor jack with a
small piece of 2x4 and raise the engine up on the
drivers side a little bit, I also had to do that to
get drivers side off.

Okay, so it looks like I will have to lift the
motor on one side. After I loosen the motor mount where do I place the
jack to lift it? I've never done lifted the motor in this manner, so I
need some help. Thanks.

You can leave the electric pump on and the mechanical pump will then act as the
pressure regulator. The electric pump will ensure a constant supply of fuel
and then the mechanical needs to only feed the carb. You'll probably need at
least 1 return line, too.
Brad
Put the electric on a
Plumb the electric pump off its own loop and turn
it on and off with a manual switch.

I'm Denny, 60, semi-retired and have been restoring my 71 Malibu the last

list. Will have more info and pic's later, but right now wiring gremlins
have got me stumped.

A few questions about your engine combo,Rusty. Does
that ZZ4 engine come with an intake manifold and distributor? If it does, that
pretty much solves your immediate problem in those areas. Maybe you can trade
that 850 carb for a 750 which would work well.
What is the compression ratio of that
hey Denny , sounds like your in a real jam, , if i was in your shoe's i would first check and make sure all your bulb are working your inside turn light, then i would start swapping out the hazard switch and turn signals switch, you said you swap out the dash harness check that union where they
The engine does come with both, but I
never know how good the stock stuff is. Good point on the compression
ratio on the engine, I didnt even think about it. The blower is
from an impala a friend has so I figured I would just move it over to mine. The
compression on the crate engine is
Denny,
I had a similar problem with an aftermarket column.
My fix was in the crescent shaped connector a couple of the wires were
not in correct sequence so the red matched up with the blue instead of
the red etc

I see that mp brakes is offering a power brake unit with a dual master

Thanks for the replies.
All the color codes match on both sides of the connectors, still need to
check grounding. Plan on checking pins, with 12V when appropriate.
Will work on it again tomorrow. Should be mid 50's all this week in Atlanta,
I won't have any excuses.

HEY RUSTY, YOU SHOULD GO WITH A FUEL INJECTION, PREFERABLY MULTI PORT, LET A COMPUTER CHIP RUN THE ENGINE, IT WILL PAY FOR IT SELF IN THE LONG RUN, TOO BAD ABOUT THE WRECK IT WAS PAINFUL TO LOOK AT THE PIC, NOT TO MENTION YOUR BACK AND NECK, GOOD LUCK DUDE
Welcome Denny,
Could it maybe be that when you turn the left on, the left rear bulb grounds through
the right bulb and make it flash.
Just something that dropped into my crazy brain at 9am after just one cup of coffee.
