Hi, we have quite a lot of 100Mb fibre distribution but it is spread across
many locations so 24 fibre ports out from any location is just about
enough.
My question is now, the 3550-FX has gone and I need to replace some units
the way forward with integrated ports is the 3750 with 24FX + 4 SFP

We have a 2950 which has suddenly stepped up CPU from 10 to 96% the box is
lightly loaded but has Decnet/lat traffic from servers on 3 ports.
Interrupts 7%
Total process % ~10%
Output interpretor susggests from sh tech that I have 66% process switching
Debug is off except for Spanningtree
Used to happen to me all the time!
We call it the Switch in the middle problem! (although the actual fault in
our case usually involves an inground fibre and an mechanical digger)
Design it out by not having sprawing L2 nets
If all your long, damage prone links are in their own subnets you

I'm no huge Cisco defender here, but I'm positive that if you were
selling a product, you'd want to not have to spend the money to support
that product, should it be counterfeit.
That depends if you are supporting it for free or getting paid to support
it.
You make a profit when you charge $50
I've had a 2950 access layer meltdown in the same way with a broadcast loop
caused by a blocking uplink port intermitantly (twice in 3 months second
time for long enough to identify) not receiving any data (inc BPDUs) even
though up and looking healthy so it needless to say thought there had been
As a McAfee IDS user with a 95% Cisco network, each time before I buy
another Intrushield I ask myself 'How good is the current ASA IDS box?'
McAfee sell themselves on the low ratio of false negative
detection/blocking even during the worst attacks and full wire speed, ASIC
based throughput with
Hi your sage advice would be appreciated!
I have 2 x 3550s connected with a gigastack both running enhanced with OSPF
both area zero, all interfaces/vlans covered.
One 3550 has an uplink to our core (ospf) and has 1000ish routes.
The other 3550 has normal adjacency with the other 3550 on all
