Dear Everyone,

This has been an interesting discussion in that we are finding out what goes
on behind the scenes with this list and probably what we can expect to
happen on any other list.

If I am understanding this all correctly, we have people writing to Rob
asking him to put better "rules" in place that would be meant to make this
list a better place. But when I read through some of the defending posts, I
see there was some discussion that, as far as I am concerned, has to do a
bit with censorship. Examples would be preventing someone from "dominating"
the list by posting "too much". This approach sets us up for another
problem, how do we all judge what is too much? And why do we feel the need
to stifle someone?

Another troubling part is that it seems that several people approached Rob
asking that additional moderators be put in place a few months ago, and not
just when we heard that Rob was banned from Yahoo. If anyone knew that this
kind of trouble was in in store for us, why wasn't the focus shifted to
protecting the archives instead of trying to figure out who would gain
"control" of the group?

This place hasn't been an easy place for lots of us, and sometimes we are
quick to criticize Rob. But I have to say the more I hear about the types
of complaints and pestering Rob has had to take, well I can understand now
why he has made some of the judgment calls that he has had to make.

Can someone please explain the need for censorship, because I just don't get
it. How can anyone even think of censoring a person who is going through
the turmoil of coping with such a formidable disease.

None of us can thrive or survive in a society (or on a listserv) that
dictates how me must think and behave. How can we be so harsh with one
another?

Rob, I now have a better understanding of what you are going through, and
once again I am sorry you were banned for whatever reason and I am sorry you
continue to be so maligned and attacked on your own list.

Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
