You know, with Jonathan's rephrasing (if it's accurate), it crossed my
mind that most ILSes that support course reserves should be able to
handle this.
It's extremely common for course reserves to belong to the instructor
that is putting them on reserve and the ILS would need to keep track
of
Reading my original post, perhaps I should have made the important point
more clear.
My question is about an ILS suitable for a library that does not own its
books, but is borrowing those books from patrons. The books all have lease
end dates associated with them. Book lenders are very similar
I don't know about an ILS that would do this, but there used to be an
open-source software package called The Distributed Library Project that was
geared toward this kind of sharing model. Alas, I can't find any downloads
of the software online anymore, but I did find two instances of it running:

I keep going back to this point. What type of partner libraries are
these? Are they part of a given institution, or consortium? Honestly,
I don't think ILL is the right solution, and as others have said on
this thread, implementing ILL (or even borrowing) is certainly
non-trivial.

I was only thinking that if any ILS had the ability to handle book
lending,
it would be through creative use of ILL, as no other common function
has
anything to do with a library borrowing a book. So, while looking
through
available ILSs, ILL was the functionality I was most curious about.
I asked about the book sharing concept at the newgenlib mailing list. Here
is their response:
We would like to first appreciate this innovative concept of lending
library.
As you have mentioned for this concept we either need to implement an ILL
or Network library to realize this.

the vufind mailing list informed me that the koha driver is broken and it
was also not well recomended by people using it, though alot of people not

BTW, I think that we have tried to avoid anonymous participation. Most
of us are happy -- perhaps too happy sometimes -- to make our
identities known.

Others of us have no problem with pseudonymous or anonymous

general disapproval of this, although of course everyone can have their
own opinion.
It is however, I agree, nice to develop professional relationships with
If it's worth enough to someone, I expect the co-op or another Koha
support provider would be willing to help fix it. Usually the other
big problem with things like drivers is getting access to test kit,
but I don't know if that's the case with VuFind.
Writing a VuFind driver is definitely
What is the upside of not identifying yourself?
I can imagine that there are some (many, legions) code4lib users who
eschew their employers' institutional views, and feel the need to keep
a very low profile.
Other than that, I really enjoy the collegial atmosphere and esprit de

I think your functional requirement that made this non-trivial was
your mention of it needing ILL functionality.
There's a definite threshold that has to be crossed before you start
seeing something like that integrated into the ILS.
If you've got some other way to deal with ILL, I'd suggest

Hello,

the ILS we would like something small and simple (evergreen and others seem
massive for the small amount of functionality we need), and
