Should we understand that the two sockets on the IIsi dual PDS slot
adapter are electronically different, one being a PDS pass-through
connector, and the other being something else, in which case, which is
which?

It's marked on the board, just beneath each connector. DayStar is good
about labeling things that way. I mention that because DayStar may have
made adapter(s) that I don't know existed.
There would also be a socket for an FPU, U2.

Be sure the cord's in the Mac's rear socket all the

120 pin right angle connectors are.
