You really need a boot floppy with some utilities to begin to deal with
this sort of thing.
OK. I finally started trying(seriously, not foolishly)
getting my Mac Classic as an e-mail machine. I loaded
the Classic w/ sys 6.0.7, I'm using PPP 2.0.1, TCP/IP

programs, and I restarted the computer. When the

That would help a lot. Another solution would be to install vs 2 or lower of

Thanks for your immediate response...
Actually... I do have the 2MB memory expansion card on
my Classic as I have 2MB of RAM...
What do you mean by turning of the finder?
Also, doesn't RAM Doubler only work on Macs w/ 8 megs
of RAM or more?

The 2 mb expander card would give you 4 mb of ram. I have two Classics with
this card installed. Finder can be turned off. Unfortunately, my sucking at
typing cannot.

Can you tell me how to turn the finder off? This won't
affect how the Mac will work right? Also, your typing
doesn't suck. Mine does... I accidently typed of,
not off. You typed it just fine :)

I don't know what he means by that, maybe he means turn off the
Multifinder, which can be done in Set Startup in one of menu pulldowns.
A neat way to gain memory in a machine like that with system 6 is to use
the FaberFinder 4.14 minifinder instead of

Second, if RAM Doubler only runs on 68020+ CPUs (right? not a 68000?), get
Sim020.
Sim020 won't let the 68000 use RamDoubler, no way.
Kinda like making gold out of lead.

Hi, Randal.
I don't know why you are getting an out of memory error, but I have a few
ideas that may be of use. Even with MultiFinder activated (and a good amount
of disk cache!), my Classic's System+Finder doesn't take much more than 600
Kb of RAM. This leaves me with about 3.4 Mb of free memory

Perfect idea! That concept completely slipped my mind... USE multifinder! I forgot
that when in single-finder mode, yes, the current app DOES use all RAM, and if you're
used to Sys =7, it'll look like, yeah... the Finder uses way too much ram...

I don't think a PRAM battery can cause the checkerboard patter. Sounds like you have
soume hardware problem :-( . I have read somewhere it can be fixed by resoldering some
