system error at startup!

OK. I finally started trying(seriously, not foolishly) getting my Mac Classic as an e-mail machine. I loaded the Classic w/ sys 6.0.7, I'm using PPP 2.0.1, TCP/IP 2.0.6, and Eudora 1.3.1. I configured all of the programs, and I restarted the computer. When the desktop came up, a message saying

first, I would try turning off finder, if it is not necessary. Also, I take it you don't have the 2mb memeory expansion card installed in your Classic. That would help a lot. Another solution would be to install vs 2 or lower of ram doubler. And yes, If there is insufficient memory for PPP to

Hi, Randal. I don't know why you are getting an out of memory error, but I have a few ideas that may be of use. Even with MultiFinder activated (and a good amount of disk cache!), my Classic's System+Finder doesn't take much more than 600 Kb of RAM. This leaves me with about 3.4 Mb of free memory

It's now been 3 hours, and my Classic still hasn't come out of its coma. Turn it on, checkerboard screen. Usually, I turn it off and have to wait only 10 minutes to revive it from its lack-of-a-clock-battery induced checkerboard coma... but now it's been 3 hours... all the hardware's in place

I don't think a PRAM battery can cause the checkerboard patter. Sounds like you have soume hardware problem :-( . I have read somewhere it can be fixed by resoldering some points on the analogue board, but I can't say for sure... Maybe other people in this list can help you. Greetings,
