I have a Farallon PDS ethernet card in my Mac SE and with the card in
the computer, it seems to be locking up.
Are you sure that your card is for an SE? Cards made for the SE/30 fit, but
are not compatable (so I heard).

the driver disk seems not to detect a plugged in ethernet cable, and I
have the switch on the back set to 'TP'(twisted-pair). Anyone know

IMO, you're on the right track with the 100B-T hub issue.
For that very reason I keep around a 10 year old 5-port 10B-T hub.
I've had luck plugging directly into my Netgear 10/100B-T router
however, but it was designed to handle mixed traffic.
