That method does work most of the time. It is not a good idea if the compact is an SE or SE FDHD or SE/30 that has an external video card installed as it could be damaged my the shock. Don On 12 Sep 2005, at 8:50 AM, Joost van de Griek wrote: On 2005-09-11 21:00, Don Robert House wrote:

I have repaired Macs since 1992 and have never used a case cracker. Sometimes it's tough to get the Mac open (I've noticed Classic IIs in particular) but it always works. Just be careful and remove it slowly. I usually press down on the SCSI port to get it started (or the floppy port if it doesn't

If you don't want to buy a new tool and have a set of allen wrenches, you can use one that will fit the torx socket. It takes quite a bit more work, but I was able to do it by turning, then lifting the small wrench over and over with my fingerstook about 10 min. On 9/11/05, John Laughlin

I've been given a SE30. It powers on to a smiling Mac for a brief moment before the smile goes away. The smile returns within a moment and then goes away again and continues until I shut the unit down. I presume the problem to be the hard drive trying to mount but failing. The next step for me to
