I want to remove all personal data from my iMac G4 PowerPC before
selling it. Will using the erase function in Dick Utility on the OS
X install disk be adequate? Can I then reinstall OS X
without including personal information so that I can demonstrate it
for a potential buyer?

Best thing to do is
#1 Run Disk Utility from the CD that came with your machine.
#2 Reformat the hard drive using the original CD
Careful! A simple reformat just rewrites the disk directory, leaving the
data on the disk. You must go to Secure Delete Options to get effective
erasure.
When you start up the iMac with your installer disc one of the
options will be to reformat the drive. Choose the erase all- zero
all data option or if your extremely paranoid choose the seven pass
or higher option and then install OSX. This will take a few hours if
you choose that option.
