A Mini would be too expensive for this. Prices for Linux-based home servers are incredibly low. OWC has the "NASPerform Network Storage Solution" with 500GB storage going for $210. I have been using the Linksys NSLU2 for a couple of years now. That sells for $60 (without disks). The Microsoft Home Server runs Windows Server 2003 which I don't think any sensible person would pick for trouble-free operation. However, the price looks to be competitive.
