I was all ready to point you to Snopes.com, but if this is actually
true it's one of the wackiest laws I've ever heard of. It would
certainly mean I'd have to charge tax if I looked at a computer, but
not a washing machine.? I've been in the service industry all my life
and we've never charged tax
In Wisconsin they will audit a business and if they cannot prove they
paid state sales tax on items they will asses it.
I did some computer work for a veterinary clinic years ago and
ordered the equipment from out of state. I did this for fun and
giggles and therefore had no sales tax number
Italian merchants will insist that you take the register receipt and
carry it with you out of the store. Tax police may stop you to demand you
present proof of taxes paid.
until 2pm, at which time both the police and the register disappear.
There is a reason behind the saying the only things you cannot avoid
are death and taxes.
