Here is the current situation:

- plf: xvid, faad, transcode
- contrib: vlc, ffmpeg
- main: xine, mplayer

(Long time ago, xvid was not 100% GPL soft thus the plf place)
If you look at mplayer source, it includes ffmpeg, xvid and faad codecs
in his own tree. that mplayer's spirit..
But with this situation it prevents other apps to be build with xvid and
faad support (especially vlc). Thus i am in favor to put in main all the
original codec ie. ffmpeg, xvid and faad to get out this hypocritical
situation.
I am in favor to put vlc in main too, but that's another story and i
prefer when 0.5 will be released.
For transcode, we already have mencoder wich do almost the same thing.
but building transcode won't be easy without some plf libs, Götz ?
