I can confirm this on a Gateway Solo 9100 with a Zoom Telephonics pcmcia modem card. Also, trying to use this modem if plugged in at boot time will almost always come up with modem busy with kppp. Ejecting the card will crash the kernel, it starts displaying numbers on the console terminal.
