-Caveat Lector- 20 Armed Uighurs Arrested in Xinjiang Taipei, Sept. 2 (CNA) Mainland Chinese authorities arrested last week 20 armed Uighurs, who allegedly planned to launch terrorist attacks on targets in Urumqi and other cities in Xinjiang, the Ming Pao Daily News of Hong Kong reported Thursday. The report quoted Wang Lequan, secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Communist Party Committee, as saying Wednesday in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, that the arrested Uighurs are separatists advocating Xinjiang independence and that they received terrorist training in foreign countries before sneaking back to Xinjiang recently. They were arrested in Kaxgar and Hetian in southern Xinjiang, Wang said, adding that they planned to attack in several cities when the mainland Chinese government celebrates its 50th founding anniversary on Oct. 1. Wang also said that, for their own safety, some government officials have begun to wear bullet-proof vest during their travel between Urumqi and Kaxgar, the report added. ================================= Robert F.
