Man Given Parole in Mass. Day Care Case - By Jennifer Peter - Boston (AP)"A man convicted of raping eight youngsters in one of the nation's most lurid - and bitterly disputed - child-molestation cases has been granted parole and could go free next spring after 17 years in prison. Gerald "Tooky" Amirault was found guilty in 1986 of abusing children at his family's suburban day-care center and was sentenced to 30 to 40 years in prison. His mother and sister were convicted in a separate trial." ""I knew it was going to come someday," said Barbara Standke, 47, whose son was one of the victims. "The parole officer told me he would have to stay away from children, and at this point I guess that's all we can ask for. But it's not going to help my son any." Under state law, Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley has six months to file a petition seeking Amirault's civil commitment as a sexually dangerous person. A spokeswoman said Coakley had not yet decided whether to do so. The Amiraults claimed they were railroaded by questionable testimony from child witnesses."

Bethpage Priest Arraigned on Theft Charges By Rita Ciolli Staff Writer 10/17/03 "A Roman Catholic priest who told police he stole about $100 a week for more than 20 years from the collection basket at St. Martin of Tours church in Bethpage was arraigned in Nassau District Court in Hempstead yesterday. The Rev. John Johnston did not enter a plea before Judge Scott Fairgrieve after he was charged with one count of second-degree grand larceny, a felony, for stealing approximately $86,000 over a 20- to 25-year period from the collection baskets at the church." "Police said Johnston led them to his bedroom where there was a shopping bag full of money, including some St. Martin of Tours collection envelopes still filled with parishioners' weekly donations. Police said he told them he skimmed about $60 to $100 a week, calling it his "401K plan."

WASHINGTON -- After 60 years of inattention and even denial by the U.S. media, newly-uncovered government documents in The National Archives and Library of Congress reveal that Prescott Bush, the grandfather of President George W. Bush, served as a business partner of and U.S. banking operative for the financial architect of the Nazi war machine from 1926 until 1942, when Congress took aggressive action against Bush and his "enemy national" partners. The documents also show that Bush and his colleagues, according to reports from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, tried to conceal their financial alliance with German industrialist Fritz Thyssen, a steel and coal baron who, beginning in the mid-1920s, personally funded Adolf Hitler's rise to power by the subversion of democratic principle and German law. Furthermore, the declassified records demonstrate that Bush and his associates, who included E. Roland Harriman, younger brother of American icon W. Averell Harriman, and George Herbert Walker, President Bush's maternal great-grandfather, continued their dealings with the German industrial tycoon for nearly a year after the U.S. entered the war.
