-Caveat Lector- Does anyone have more info re the NE power blackout and possible connection to the Pickering Nuclear Plant (Toronto) arrests of (another) 19 terrorists of the same morning ? in fact 3 (possibly related ?) major events on the same day ? I've been away for a while - am still catching up on news here.
T. Aug 14, 2003: Canada: during a series of pre-dawn raids in Toronto today, the RCMP apprehended 19 young Pakistani men suspected of plotting a terrorist attack against a nuclear power facility. The men were arrested on immigration charges. All 19 men, aged 18 to 33, were from Punjabi province in Pakistan, and were in Canada on student visas and forged immigration documents to maintain their presence in the country. Several of the men were taking flying lessons, including one whose lessons took him over Pickering nuclear power plant, located 20 mi/30 km east of Toronto. Other men were turned away from the gates of the Pickering plant after claiming they wanted to take a shortcut walk through the plant on their way to the beach. One of the addresses raided was linked to the theft of a nuclear instrument used in working with Cesium-137. Investigations began when one of the men applied for permanent residence while claiming to attend a school that turned out to be fictional. Officials found tens of thousands of Canadian dollars in the man's bank account, yet he had no record of employment. [NB: RCMP only confirm this info this week 22nd - 25th ?].
