27 March 2003 BERLIN - German name-calling aimed at the US continued Thursday with the leader of Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's Greens coalition partner dubbing US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld a "right-wing Bolshevik." Reinhard Buetikofer, a co-leader of the Greens, said in a TV interview it was not the United States military which had sought a war in Iraq. "It was a few civilians who went wild and control the American Department of Defense ... This is Rumsfeld, (Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul) Wolfowitz and a group of people one could perhaps call right-wing Bolsheviks," Buetikofer said on Suedwestrundfunk TV. Bolsheviks were the hardline leaders of the Marxist party which led the Russian revolution in 1917 and established the first government of the former Soviet Union. The Greens serve as junior coalition partner in Schroeder's leftist government. Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer is a senior Greens member. Last year Schroeder's justice minister, Herta Daeubler-Gmelin, was forced to resign after she compared US President George W. Bush to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Another leading member of Schroeder's Social Democrats (SPD) compared Bush to Roman Emperor Julius Caesar. Earlier this year the SPD deputy defence minister, Walter Kolbow, reportedly called Bush "a dictator." This was subsequently denied by Kolbow. Chancellor Schroeder strongly opposes the Iraq war and this has caused severe diplomatic tensions with the United States. DPA Forwarded for your information.
