NOTE : Cervid brucellosis can indeed be transferred to both domestic cattle
and wild bison that share common habitat with elk.

Cervidae Brucellosis Eradication Project
Horse Lake Mesas Game Park
Dulce, NM
In 1972, the Jicarilla Apache Tribal Government received two separate shipments of elk from Wind Cave, South Dakota, and Grand
Teton National Park, Wyoming, for stocking of the newly created Horse Lake Mesa Game Park, Dulce, New Mexico.

This park is a 13,000-acre Class A Game Park created by the tribal government for the purpose of sport hunting. The elk received by the
Jicarilla's were card tested for brucellosis prior to shipment, card reactor animals removed, and the remaining card test negative
(exposed) animals shipped to New Mexico for stocking the game parkFor more info See :

Cervidae Brucellosis :
Cervidae = deer, elk, moose caribou and related species
Brucellosis (a.k.a. Bang's disease or contagious abortion) is a contagious bacterial animal disease. The farm animal most commonly affected by
brucellosis is cattle.
Side Note : At time the Animal Mutilators would return to the same herd on a YEARLY Basis.
Could the MUTILATORS also been MONITORING Bovine Leukosis Virus (BLV) ?
Bovine Leukemia Virus can create economic losses from the disease in both beef and dairy herds. Blood testing establishes existing disease
levels, and careful management practices will effectively reduce the incidence until all herd animals are virus free. *Yearly retesting allows
recertification on all BLV-Free herds.
