-Caveat Lector- NY POST 2 PALESTINIAN YANKS SLAIN BY MISTAKE
By URI DAN July 7, 2004 -- Two Palestinian-Americans were killed by accident yesterday when Israeli forces blasted a West Bank terrorist commander with rockets, authorities said. Khaled Saleh, an American citizen teaching at A-Najah University, and his 16-year-old son were killed during a fierce shootout in Nablus. Officials said an Israeli raid led to a gun battle in which a naval commando and a senior official of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine were killed. The group's head in Nablus, Emad Farej, escaped to the roof of a nearby four-story building where he continued firing and managed to wound two Israeli soldiers. The Israeli commander, Gadi Eizenkrot, ordered a rocket attack - which killed Farej but also Saleh and his son. Eizenkrot later apologized. Also yesterday, Israel's internal-security minister said there was "no doubt" that Jewish militants were ready to kill Prime Minister Ariel Sharon because of his planned Gaza Strip withdrawal. "There are those who have already made the decision, that when the time comes they will save the people of Israel," Tzachi Hanegbi said. Sharon was quoted as telling members of his coalition government, "All my life I protected and defended Jews.
