REVISED SCHEDULE

MAYOR’S OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCES FULL SCHEDULE FOR MOSQUITO
SPRAYING

Please note that this schedule is weather dependent. High winds, fog or
rain
can force the City to postpone spraying. Additionally, the only insecticide
being used during ground application is Resmithrin and the two being used by
helicopter are Sumithrin and Malathion.

The City has modified its spraying schedule for logistical reasons in an
effort to maximize its resources. Please note that some communities have
been moved up from Tuesday to Monday and others moved from Sunday or Monday
to Tuesday and the method of distribution has changed for some.

MAYOR GIULIANI PROVIDES UPDATE ON ST. LOUIS ENCEPHALITIS;
SECOND ROUND OF CITYWIDE SPRAYING TO BEGIN THIS EVENING 12 confirmed cases
of
St. Louis Encephalitis (including 3 deaths);
89 cases under investigation (including one death)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today provided an update on St. Louis Encephalitis
(SLE) cases in New York City. The number of confirmed SLE cases remains at
12, while 89 reported illnesses are under investigation. The Mayor was
joined
by Neal L. Cohen, M.D., Health Commissioner; and Jerome Hauer, Director, the
Mayor's Office of Emergency Management (MOEM).

Mayor Giuliani said, "With no lab results received yesterday from the U.S.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we continue to have 12
confirmed cases of SLE. Among the confirmed cases, six have been released
from hospitals, three are stable, and three, tragically, have died. Nine of
the 12 cases are from Queens, two are from the Bronx, and one is from
Brooklyn. We are currently investigating 89 cases. Among those cases, 9 are
probable, 26 are suspect, 54 are of low probability.

Commissioner Cohen said,"To prevent additional cases of SLE, we continue to
advise New Yorkers to take precautions against mosquito bites, particularly
from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active. Upon the recommendation
of
the CDC and the New York State Department of Health, we are also continuing
our spraying efforts to reduce the chances of any additional SLE infections.
It should be noted that all of the confirmed cases of SLE have occurred
among
individuals who became ill prior to the start of the City's mosquito
spraying
efforts, and that no substantiated reports of illness were received related
to last week's first round of spraying."

MOEM Director Hauer said, "Weather permitting, aerial and ground spraying
will resume this evening and continue over the next several days until the
entire City has received a second application of Malathion and
pyrethroid-based insecticides. New York City residents can call the MOEM
Hotline, 1-888-663-6692, or log on to the City's Web site, www.ci.nyc.ny.us,
for up-to-date information on this weekend's spraying activities."

Although adverse effects from the use of these insecticides in the small
quantities in which they are being applied are negligible, DOH advises
residents, particularly those with respiratory problems, in areas where
spraying is taking place, to:

•Close all doors and windows and keep them closed for two to three hours
after spraying is completed. •Turn fans and air conditioners off, or set the
exhaust so that air exits from the house. •Remove children's toys from
outdoor areas and clothes from outdoor clotheslines. If toys are left
outside, wash with soap and water before using again.

The Health Department-staffed MOEM Hotline, 1-888-MOEM-NYC (1-888-663-6692),
continues to assist New York City residents who have questions about SLE by
providing information on spraying schedules and on precautions to reduce the
risk of exposure to mosquitoes. Individuals with questions from outside of
New York City should contact their local health agencies. Since September 3
at 4:00pm, when the Hotline was established, it has received over 90,000
calls.

Information about SLE and related Health Department releases since September
3, as well as spraying schedules are available on the City's Web site at

Updated: 09/19/99 @ 1400 hours
This is the most recent schedule available to date.

I also live in park slope and had the same awful experience with the
spraying of malathion last night. we have two infants in the house, and
we
rushed to close the windows, but this stuff is insidious and of course, it
was already in the house and we could sense it for hours. although we
found
the listing in the NYTimes indicating Brooklyn would be sprayed yesterday,
there was no listing for an informatin number, and our calls to the health
department were met with no help. the whole experience is infuriating.

I, too, live in Park Slope. I also witnessed this frightening
incident. It was disturbing to see these helicopters spraying
the poison across a neighborhood of children, adults, pets, etc.
     I'm a full-time musician. Last night, I was concerned
how dangerous the situation was for me to walk to my wedding
gig @ Brooklyn's Botanical Garden. Considering that it lies next
to Prospect Park, I assumed that the helicopters must've paid
extra attention to that area. I finally decided to take a cab.
I was not shocked when my car service driver showed up
(LATE, of course) with all of his windows open.
However, I was shocked that the bartenders working @ B'klyn's
Botanical Garden, admittedly served the entire wedding party
their drinks in the very same glasses which had sat outside
(face-up) during the handful of helicopter flyby's.
I find this to be greatly irresponsible on the part of
(1.) the staff of the Botanical Garden
(2.) the city administration
(3.) the person(s) in charge of organizing the wedding.
All the staff members who I spoke with, admitted to seeing
and/or hearing the many passes of low-flying helicopters.
By chance, I watched the NY1 "caution" broadcast late Fri. Nite.
They listed a loose schedule of times & dates when the poison
would be sprayed throughout the 5 boroughs. I DID NOT see Pk. Slope
listed in the report. Perhaps I missed it. Regardless, this IS NOT
enough warning ! What about those who weren't watching ?
I ended up arriving to my gig as late as possible so I could best
avoid breathing the highly toxic substance known as MALATHION.
I decided to spend money on a cab rather than walk to work,
in order not to jeopardize my health. This situation is unfair and
intolerable ... especially for those who cannot afford a cab !
What can I do with my experience. I wish to bring this to the
attention of those responsible, & make them pay for their actions !
             Sincerely, Dave Masucci (212) 252 - 2091 <<< Voicemail

Dear Robert, Today, while selling art near ABC, i met and talked to an
ABC news and television producer, ,I asked her why ABC news is not
covering the spraying, and is she aware of the websites which declare
this poison as dangerous, and why there was never an opposing view to
these idiots proclaiming that its safe!!. She said that , yes, she saw
the sites, and that she wanted to know why also, and that she ,and
others have been asking the same questions.......i thought you would
find this interesting,and peculiar...Arthur
