Frightened residents of a Tennessee town have been told to stay indoors and turn off their air conditioners after small airplanes dropped a mysterious, powdery substance late Thursday. Officials say ultra-light planes dropped the white substance on two subdivisions in Clarksville. Hundreds of people in about 180 homes have been told to stay indoors until officials find out what the substance was. They have also been told to turn off heating and cooling systems. Initial Tests: Not Anthrax Initial tests indicate that the substance was not anthrax, but further testing will be done. Clarksville is about 45 miles northwest of Nashville, and adjacent to Fort Campbell, Ky., home of the 101st Airborne Division. The 101st Airborne Parkway near the base was shut down at about 9 p.m. The Red Cross has set up shop in a nearby elementary school. This is the community's second encounter with mysterious powder this week. The North Clarksville Gas and Water Service Center was shut while the city awaits test results on a white, powdery substance found by a janitor there early Wednesday, the city said in a press release.
