The new intifada signifies the Palestinian's determination to win acceptance of their right to self-determination and establish an independent state in the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. It also signifies their rejection of interim arrangements that keep them in a situation of dependence. At the end of the Camp David summit meeting between US president Bill Clinton, Israel's prime minister Ehud Barak, and the president of the Palestinian Authority, Yasser Arafat, held from 11 to 24 July 2000, the two sides nevertheless undertook to pursue their efforts to reach an agreement on all permanent status issues as soon as possible.
