My response stands as this practice is totally standard in the drug industry and has been for as long as I can remember. Is the fact that the Bush company own stock in Eli Lily supposed to have some dire and dark meaning? Guess what? So do hundreds of thousands of other people. I think I still have 10 shares in a mutual fund myself. They hardly ever consult me for advice on their marketing practices, however, and I do not think they consult the Bush family, either. But even if they were to do so, the fact that you think this is news speaks volumes of your own lack of insight. Remember when Motrin was for arthritis? Soon as the patent ran out, it became 'useful' for other forms of pain. This is done with virtually EVERY drug. It is nothing new and it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Bush family. That is like blaming them for the concept of making a profit. The conspiracy is with the drug companies and it is with every one of them and with every drug. R&D does not stop with the acquisition of a patent. Other and ever more varied applications of the drug continue to be sought. This is one of the reasons and one of the ways the drug industries fleece the people, especially in this country. I suspect we pay the R&D on most drugs with the rest of the world reaping the benefits minus this added expense. Even inventing a new illness to treat is not new and in the past, normal conditions have been made pathologic so as to apply the drug in question. But c is correct in that he replied to an earlier response along the same line. Sorry you did not get the one you wanted but this is an old practice by an old and engrained pharmaceutical industry. I would have thought you might have appreciated the bit of humor but guess not. The fact that you chose to 'scold' us for it and imply that we are too stupid to read was, however, totally unwarranted. You might want to research the uniqueness of your own post before being quite so demanding.
