Twenty-eight high school students from the communities of Peterborough and Lakefield in Ontario feel they are being discriminated against by their school board administration. Fearing terrorist attacks, The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board banned all international trips for their students for an indefinite period. Parents have subsequently organized a private trip to The Hague International Model United Nations conference for these 28 students. The school board administration is refusing to allow any rescheduling of examinations, a routine practice, to accommodate these students. In fact, the Board would reschedule the exams if the students attended a different, Board sanctioned university Model United Nations conference, one that the parents feel is inappropriate for high school students. Parents, students and community members are mystified by the heavy handed treatment directed at this particular group of students. If the Board is willing to be this punitive to these students, they may be willing to be punitive to any group of students. IT COULD BE YOUR KIDS NEXT!
