Belief is the enemy.

John Keel was wrong: Insisting that others share X belief is the
enemy. :-)

In religion and politics, there are two kinds of people:
those who wish to control others and those who wish to remain free. The
only means by which the former may reign over the latter is by deception,
fear and force; by deluding those who enjoy God-given personal liberty
into accepting empty promises of security, elaborate schemes of
dependence and the propaganda of divisiveness.

Belief is the opposite of knowing. You need beliefs, because not all theories are tested out yet you do not know everything, but please try to keep them separate.

And we come around to Keel again. Not just opposite, but the enemy of
knowing. This was in the context of his research on the Mothman. He felt the
beliefs of those seeing whatever they were seeing determined what they saw.
If they actually saw something which did not exist in their belief database
it was converted into an existing element of that database.

Belief is the opposite
of knowing.

For humans, there is no such thing as knowing.
Knowing is an arbitrary absolute. There are, however,
greater and lesser degrees of
understanding.

You need beliefs,
because not all theories are tested out yet you do not know
everything,

I need to eat/drink, sleep, breathe and eventually die.
I use beliefs to explain gaps in the logical sequence/flow of
information. I observed X and am now observing Z. I can only
speculate (believe) that something occurred in interval Y.
