Any device behind the bridge (that is in a 32bit PCI slot) is immune
from the problem, so an add in controller would also work fine in DMA
mode, although of course the SRM won't boot from it. I have thought of
using an add in card and using a very small IDE disk as a boot drive.
Or maybe I

Yes there is, but if you find a CF card without DMA at all then there
won't be anything to worry about which is rather
I'll check in some autoconf tests to report the kernel version
and the output from uname. Any idea what command I should
use to figure out which CPU the machine has?

Hi Bastian,
the new version in unstable works after installing here. So your fix seems
to not affect stability.

As others have mentioned, it's quite adequate for my purposes,
serving media files; the Silicon Image SATA controller works fine, I
get excellent NFS performance from it. I don't expect to transcode
movies with it; I have another computer for that. I kind of like
having a piece of history
You can get access to my alpha (Alphastation 500), too. It is running debian
testing. I could also install libtool from experimental.

I do not want to try this out, as I have no physical access to the machine

The last kernel that works for me is 2.6.31-1-alpha-generic. Does anybody
knows what the problem loading the XFS module is?
Unstable is else still running fine!

Hi,
As of disks, I have a one disk (Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB),
which I can attach for a brief period of time into my Alpha, using PCI
SATA controler. But I think other people is already using such disks
in their machines. Can anybody confirm?
I have a 1.5TB SATA disc
available on request.
