conflict for the SB600 controller?? The first seems to be the

driver. To complicate things further the AHCI SATA driver does not seem
to work properly with the SB600 if MSIs are enabled.
So I compiled a new kernel based on the

Well hopefully there is a proper driver for the PATA ports on it.
Everything I have found so far
Dear Srs,
I've just suceeded performing the base install from an etch snapshot CD1,
in a HP DC5750, which uses an ATI SB600 to provide SATA.
I had to choose "Native IDE" in the bios settings do install properly

Hello,
I had the same problem with another MB. The problem seems to be related
to the SB600 chip.
The only method I found to cope with is to use a kernel with

Hello,
After a loong trip the chipset SB600 is working and the speed given
by "hdparm -t " is much better ( > 50Mo/s instead of 1.5Mo/s !) whith
the "Legacy IDE" mode. The DMA is on. But I do not know what is

2.6.18 to 2.6.21 is a big jump to backport stuff for. Lots of SATA
changes. But if the change that is important is small, it might be
doable. Lucky for me I don't buy machines with ATI hardware in them

Hello,
I want to install (at work) Debian on a HP dc5750 (3800+) and I
encounter some problems with the installation.
With the netinstall the disk and the network card are not found.
The machine is packaged with an ATI SB600 SATA/IDE chip and the network
card is a Broadcom BCM5755.
I know that

Hardly a usual place.
Great!!! Kernel 2.6.21-r6 from
kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/ does the trick.
Thank you very much, Len. I had some trouble to figure out a suitable
sources.list line
(got it with Google - see
impossible to find a CD
reader.
So we will use an old machine (Debian 32) for the first tests before the
new one could be installed.
I will try more tests to better understand what happens (if my boss
don't find a bunch of other things to do).

Ah! What a delight! I retried this whole thing using the etch
installer after seeing some information under a Google search for kernel
support for the SB600 south
memory up to 800 Mhz, etc., etc.
The boot process times out when trying to communicate with the SATA
drives (I have 2 WD drives, both recognized by Windows when I installed
that later). The message given is along the lines of
"ata.1: SATA drive failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error errmask=0x104)&qu
