I think this template, and the code using it, is obsolete. The only two non-standard CD-ROM drivers left in Linux are pcd and gdrom, neither of which we enable. Maybe FreeBSD has some such drivers, but given that pre-ATAPI CD-ROM drives must be >20 years old now I don't see the point in
