I get the same thing on i386 system running kernel 2.6.14.5,
This doesn't happen in version 3.* but it does happen in version 4.01
running debian testing.
Another thing that I noticed is that it doesn't answer the first rup,
but wait for time out. I do get an answer from rups after that.

the gst-plugins-base0.10 package is only missing a Build-Depend on
libxt-dev. This is required for the check for X as it is otherwise
missing the X11/Intrinsic.h file, fails and doesn't set the correct
library include path for -lX11
