the failure is caused by a to restrictive custom /etc/pam.d/other file.
So I'd suggest that vlock provides an own /etc/pam.d/vlock file.

The latest squeeze update (~07:30CET) solved the problem. It includes an
upgrade to libkdecore5 and did not cause any dependency issues. RESPECT

The program appears to use 100% cpu for extended periods of time (eg.
